Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A Look Back and a Look Forward

The Blue Knights started the week with their first road match of the year against Conard High School in West Hartford. Both teams came out aggressively looking to push the action. The Blue Knights struck first with goal by Alexis Frausto midway through the first half. As time wound down in the first half, Conard played a ball towards the goal. As the ball floated towards the goal, players from both teams fought for position. As the ball was cleared by Southington, it became apparent that two Southington’s players had been injured on the play. Defenseman, Kieran Tindall and Goalie, Evan Daddona had been injured and would not return to the game. The first half ended with Southington leading 1-0. The second half started with John Griffin in goal and a number of other adjustments to the Southington line-up. Both teams pushed the action throughout the second half each having chances to score. With 14 minutes remaining in the half, Conard scored to tie the game. The second half ended with the score tied at 1-1 and once again Southington was heading to overtime. The teams battled competitively through two 5-minute overtimes and for the second consecutive game the Blue Knights ended with a 1-1 tie. It was an emotional game for Southington as the team pulled together in the second half with two key players out. A big shout out to John Griffin for standing tall as he stepped into goal for Evan. Everyone is wishing Kieran and Evan a speedy recovery.

On Thursday, the Blue Knights stayed on the road for a game with Bristol Central. The teams played to a 0-0 tie for the first half of the game. Bristol Central broke through early in the second half to take a 1-0 lead. Midway through the second half Joe Colaccino scored for the Blue Knights to tie the game at 1-1. Late into the second half, Bristol Central drew a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. The Bristol Central player found the top corner of the net and Bristol Central had the 2-1 victory.

The Blue Knights ended week with a 0-1-2 record.

The Blue Knights will start next week with a home match against Tolland on Tuesday at 3:45pm. Southington will end the week with a road match against rival Glastonbury High School at 3:45pm.
