Welcome to the eleventh 2017 installment of “Set Piece”, the Southington High School Soccer team’s blog spot.

Corner Kick

Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A Look Back

On a cool, damp Monday evening, the Blue Knights traveled to Conard for the first round of the state championship tournament. Southington struck first as Eli Rodriguez finished a header off of a free kick from Kieran Tindall. The first half ended with Southington up 1-0. With 17 minutes remaining, Conard tied the score on a rebound off of Evan Daddona’s stop of a penalty kicked. Three minutes later, Eli Rodriguez was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Hayden Burbank converted the penalty kick for the 2-1 Blue Knights lead. Southington played strong team defense and preserved the 2-1 victory.

The Blue Knights ended their regular season with a record of 10-6-2.

While the season didn’t end in the way the Blue Knights had hoped, the team should be proud of their 2017 season. The team consistently overcame adversity and grew as a team throughout the season. Once again, we wish all of the seniors best of luck in the future.

Farewell!

With my son graduating, this will be the last installment of Set Piece that I will write. I have had a great time writing the blog over the last two seasons and I hope that someone in the Southington High Soccer family will pick it up going-forward. Set Piece has become a great vehicle to share our boy’s story with the community throughout the season.
