Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A Look Back and a Look Forward

Varsity:

On Monday, the Blue Knights took to the road for an away match against Manchester High School. The major action for this game took place in the last two minutes of each half. As the first half was drawing to a close, Joe Colaccino drove the ball into the box and kicked the ball toward the net. The shot deflected off of the hand of the Manchester defender resulting in a penalty kick. Hayden Burbank drilled the penalty shot into the upper left hand portion of the goal (see picture below) and the first half ended with a 1-0 Southington lead. The next meaningful action took place in the last two minutes of the game as Manchester headed the ball into the goal to tie the score. Both teams played evenly during the overtime and the game ended with a 1-1 tie.

Shortly before the end of the first half, Elijah Rodriguez added to the Southington lead once again off of a corner kick. The first half ended with a 2-0 Blue Knights lead. Very early into the section half, Middletown broke through to tighten the game to 2-1. The rest of the second half was played evenly and Southington withstood strong Middletown pressure in the closing moments to hold them off for the victory.
