Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A look Back and a Look Forward

Varsity:

On Tuesday, the boys traveled to Bulkley High School in Hartford. The Blue Knights started out quick with an early goal from Colin Burdett and the first half ended with a 1-0 lead. Early into the second half, Ronaldo Nieto broke through the defense and gave Southington a 2-0 lead. Bulkley then found the back of the net to cut the Southington lead at 2-1. Southington quickly answered as Colin Burdette headed the ball into the net for his second goal of the game. Bulkley continued to apply pressure and scored a goal late in the second half to cut the Blue Knights lead to 3-2. Southington stayed strong for the last few minutes of the game and left Hartford with a 3-2 win. With this win, Southington has now accumulated enough points to qualify for the state tournament following the regular season.

On Friday, the Blue Knights returned home for a match against a strong Farmington High team. From the beginning of the game the boys were up to the test and played very competitively. About a quarter of the way into the first half, Farmington broke through with a goal off a powerful long-range shot. The first half ended with Farmington leading 1-0. The second half was played very evenly with Evan Daddona making a number of nice saves. As the second half wound down, Southington shifted to a very aggressive formation that started to generate scoring opportunities. Colin Burdette crossed the ball in front of the net and Joe Colaccino narrowly missed finishing. Dan Topper lead another Southington attack that generated a flurry in front of the goal but again the boys were denied. Unfortunately, the clock ran out on Southington and Farmington prevailed in a hard fought match 1-0.

Be Our Guest: Southington Youth Soccer

At Friday’s match against Farmington, not only was the concession stand opened for continued support of United Way but the Southington High School Soccer program also welcome all members of the Southington Youth Soccer program. The future soccer stars of Southington served as ball boys as well played a scrimmage at halftime. This was a great opportunity to connect the present team with the future.
