Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A Look Back and a Look Forward

This past Monday under a dark glooming sky and good breeze from the remnants of Hurricane Hermine, the Blue Knights played their last scrimmage against Cheshire High School. After several minutes of good back and forth action, the Blue Knights broke through for the first goal of the game off the foot of Alexis Frausto. Southington continued to create opportunities that resulted in a second goal on a wonderful header by Colin Burdette. Hayden Burbank finished the scoring for the game and Evan Daddona kept a clean sheet for a 3-0 Blue Knights victory.

On Friday, the Blue Knights opened the season with a home game against Conard High School. With the hard work of winter/summer workouts and preseason practices and scrimmages behind them, it was time for the varsity team to take the field for this first game of the season. With the temperature hovering around 90 degrees and the temperature on the turf well over 100 degrees each team was presented with the added challenge of overcoming the elements. Southington broke through first on goal by Joe Colaccino with the supporting assist from Alexis Frausto. The first half ended with a 1-0 Blue Knights lead. Early into the second half, Conard scored a goal to even the match at 1-1. The scored remained even at 1-1 at the end of regulation time. Each team, feeling the impacts of very warm conditions, persevered through two 5 minutes overtimes, with end result being a 1-1 tie and the Blue Knights getting their first point of the season.

Come out and support Boys Soccer “Shake a Can” event 9/17 and 9/18

Providing our boys with the best possible experience within the soccer program requires the ability to fundraise. The boys take accountability and are active participants in fundraising and make the investment with their time to support the program.

The first fundraiser of the year, will be the annual “Shake A Can” on Saturday 9/17 and Sunday 9/18. The boys will be out at Stop & Shop from 8:30am to 6pm and Fancy Bagel from 8am to Noon on both days. Your support is much appreciated. Stop by and meet some of the boys and let them know how much Southington values and supports its soccer program!
