Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A look Back and a look Forward:

It was great to see the boys make their 2016 debut with two scrimmages this past week. On Monday, the Blue Knight’s defeated Bristol Eastern 1-0 with Cameron Zegzdryn netting the lone goal of the match. On Friday, on a beautiful late summer evening (see below), the boys battled hard for a 1-1 tie with Granby. Hayden Burbank pounded in a penalty kick to account for the Southington’s goal.

Scrimmage

This coming Tuesday, in the final scrimmage, the Blue Knight’s will play Cheshire at home. On Friday, the team will open the season with a home match against Conard. Come out and start your weekend by attending the season’s opening match!

Recap of the Alumni Game

This past Sunday morning, as a continuation of a 30-year tradition, the Southington High School soccer family descended on Rec Park. The activities started early with the JV Team defeating the Freshman team. The anticipation then built towards the annual tilt between the Alumni Team and the Varsity Team. Daniel Murawski, the first Southington High Soccer coach, made his annual trip up from Florida and started the introductions of the alumni team and Couch Yanosy finished off the introductions of the players from his tenure. It was a great turnout from the alumi team with representation from the mid 70’s through to the most recent graduates in 2015.

Alumni Group

Among the highlights was recognition of the alumni with family on the current roster. If that doesn’t illustrate the strong tradition of our soccer family, I am not sure what does. Below are the Testa’s, The DeFeo’s and The Rodriguez’s.

Alumni Legacy

It was a spirited game, the Varsity Team prevailing with a 3-0 victory. While the competition on the field was fierce, the real winner of the day was the continuation of a tradition that sets apart the Southington High School soccer program.

Alumni Game Action

The afternoon concluded with a picnic and chance for everyone to spend a few minutes catching up. Thanks again to all of the Southington Soccer Alumni for their participation and strong on-going support for the program. Special shout out to Nello Picone for his dedication to this event. It makes a real difference for the boys.
