Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A Look Back and a Look Forward

Varsity:

On Monday, the Blue Knights where on the road for a match against Northwest Catholic High School. This was the last regular season game for Southington and a win would likely give them a home match in the opening round of the state tournament. The Blue Knights came out strong and controlled the tempo of the early minutes of the game. The Blue Knights broke through with the first goal off a free kick by Hayden Burbank. John Testa continued goal-scoring streak to allow Southington to take a 2-0 lead into the half. Early into the second half, Ronaldo Nieto capped the scoring in the game with a goal and the Blue Knights secured a 3-0 victory. Evan Daddona completed his third consecutive shutout. With this win, the Blue Knights completed the regular season with a record of 10-4-2.

On Friday, as preparation for the state tournament as we well as to have some fun, the 4th annual Southington High School Blue – White game was played. Coaches Austin Magaro (White Team) and Rob Palko (Blue Team) completed a draft to form the teams. The White Team broke through first with a goal by Owen Bajrami. Before the end of the first half, the Blue Team scored a goal by off a free kick by Hayden Burbank for a 1-1 tie at the half. The second half was played evenly with no scoring. The 2016 Blue-White game would then be decided in penalty kicks with the White Team prevailing.

Looking forward to next week

The Blue Knights will start state tournament play on Tuesday (11/8) @6pm with a home game against Newtown.
