Southington Boys Soccer is Back!
Welcome to the first 2017 installment of “Set Piece”, the Southington High School Soccer team’s blog spot.
On a weekly basis, this blog will chronicle the 2017 season. The goal is to keep the Southington Boys Soccer family and community up to date with latest news from the Blue Knights Boys soccer program.
We are always looking for feedback as well as anyone who would like to be a contributor to the blog.
We have a team!
Tryouts for the team occurred, August 24 – 26. At the conclusion of the tryouts, Southington was ready to move forward with their Freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams. The hard work the boys have been putting in over the summer paid off as the were put through a rigorous fitness test.
Blue Knight’s on the Pitch: A look Back and a Look Forward
The season started for the varsity team with two scrimmages. Last the Wednesday (8/30), the boys lost an away match to Burlington 2-1. On Friday evening (9/1), the boys tied Granby 2-2 on the Southington turf. Each game provided an opportunity for the 2017 team come together as a unit.
This Tuesday (9/5), the boys will have their last scrimmage at 4pm at home against Cheshire. On Friday, 9/8, the Blue Knights will open the 2017 season will a home match against a traditionally very strong opponent in Hall High School. The team would love to have a large and loud crowd for this important match.
Annual Alumni Game
The annual Southington Boys Soccer alumni game was play on Sunday, 9/3. This game is a special tradition for the Blue Knights Soccer program. The game is a continuing demonstration of the strong bond between the team and its alumni.
In unseasonably cool temperatures and in a steady rain, the Alumni prevailed 4-2.
Following the game, the collective Blue Knights soccer family enjoyed a picnic in a very welcome dry place under the pavilion in the drive in. Thanks once again for the strong support from the Southington Blue Knights Soccer Alumni group.
